Abstract. In this work, we study infectious diseases for which the SEI model is suitable, that is, the disease includes an exposed or latent period. If transmission of the disease at the destination is somehow eliminated, new cases will enter the population, making eradication impossible. In the absence of immigration of infected individuals, the model allows threshold behavior in terms of the base reproduction number, and if the system includes immigration, then the disease always persists.
